Like all pedigree dogs Leonbergers are prone to certain diseases or problems that are sometimes genetically carried or are just prone to be affected due to their familial resemblances.

The long term consequences of eradicating some diseases, and their impact on the remaining diseases within a limited gene pool is yet to be determined and only time will tell.
